Pioneer whips up new batch of functions for CD recorders

Japanse manufacturer Pioneer Corp's compact disc (CD) recording systems have attracted widespread interest since 1993 in the US and European markets. Its products are generating extremely robust sales in Japan in 1999. The company's developmental progress with CD recorders is reflected in its new PDR-509 model. The booming CD recorder market exhibits every sign of continuing its growth, with analysts saying that the market could exceed 1.2 million units in FY 1999, up from 540,000 units reported in FY 1998.

Pioneer Corp, the pioneer of consumer-use CD recorders, introduces the PDR-509, which records on recordable CDs and rewritable CDs. The product can also erase rewritable CDs and replay recordable CDs, rewritable CDs and standard CDs. It features a digital recording volume that allows digital level control when recording from digital input. A multiple-track erase mode allows users to erase multiple tracks simultaneously.

By incorporating innovative technologies developed by Matsushita, the product is one of the lightest and smallest MD record-and-replay units in the market. The rechargeable battery, in conjunction with an AA alkaline battery, provides continuous reproduction for 25 hours and continuous recording for 12 hours.
