Quiet but successful, MicroCenter steers a steady course through PC retailing
Article Abstract:
MicroCenter has grown from its first store in Columbus, HO, in 1977, to a retailer with 13 sites that are usually half-full of customers such as first-time buyers and do-it yourselfers. The retailer is believed to have achieved its success through word-of-mouth advertising, instead of ad circulars in the newspapers or commercials. MicroCenter is known for its clean, well-lit and well-marked stores that are staffed with helpful people who can answer customers' questions, even difficult ones. The retailer also credits the low turnover rate it has over any large computer chain, to its honest approach.
