A nuclear reconnaissance
Article Abstract:
The future of nuclear power in the 21st century and beyond rests primarily on the perception of its competitiveness and on the successful disposition of nuclear waste. The nation's nuclear industry is experiencing many problems linked with cost rather than public opinion. The marked trend of nuclear plants being closed substantially earlier than their projected lifetimes reflects the economic issues linked to operating/maintaining those plants. The industry's situation in several countries is evaluated.

Danish wind turbines take unfortunate turn
Article Abstract:
The world's largest producer of wind turbines, and the whole idea of large-scale wind energy itself, suffered a setback with the news that all the wind turbines at Denmark's Horns Rev (Reef) would be moved to the shore for repair and replacement of defective generators and transformers. The generator and transformer problems made it necessary to retrofit all 81 of the two-megawatt turbines at considerable expenses.
