Breezy DSP designs
Article Abstract:
Frontier Design (Leuven, Belgium) offers A/RT Builder 1.5 and a companion, A/RT Library, which can be used to overcome the problem of implementing digital signal-processing (DSP) functions according to Reed Packer, system architect, communication ASIC Group, American Microsystems. Register transfer level (RTL) implementations of DSP functions can almost never be re-used, but A/RT Builder solves problems of this sort is the C language is used to design a library of fixed-point DSP functions parameterized for quick reconfiguration for unique customer needs. That is time-consuming, but saves time down the road. The C code that results can be somewhat specialized, a drawback, and A/RT tools do not support some C constructs. These are not major problems.

Lightening the load while on the road
Article Abstract:
Sun Microsystems has introduced i-Planet, which will let workers very easily take a personal electronic working environment, called a desktop, wherever they go in telecommuting. The product is simple-to-use server software that makes it unnecessary to load common office tools like a word-processing or spreadsheet program. A device with a modern browser attached to the Internet is the only requirement. Key targets are ISPs looking to the day when corporations will be virtual and companies whose traveling workers will be able to communicate through the corporate Web server easing the load of the IT department.

One highly adaptable software package
Article Abstract:
Visio Corp.'s Visio Technical 5.0 can be many things to many people, stating out as a visualization program that helps users create various kinds of two-dimensional engineering diagram according to C.G. Masi, freelance technology journalist. A user can make the figures in the drawing work with programming languages as smart drawings. The software can be interactive over transmission control protocol/Internet protocol (TCP/IP) networks. Automating the drawing through a programming language is very rewarding.
