Its operations is so structured to maximize responses to customer needs and its return on investment in human resources and facilities. The firm's communication system allows the company to encompass employees' talents, skills and areas of knowledge. Moreover, Dow Corning established a Coatings Club to gather people from different groups,industries and functions to promote research and development efforts.

Project tracking system serves as research management tool

A trackingsystem developed at W.R. Grace and Co for monitoring the performance of its research program comprised of about 100 research projects is described. The project tracking system has three important features. These are a fact sheet that summarizes key project commercial and technical data, milestones that establish technical objectives and performance is compared with milestones to monitor progress. If properly implemented, the system develops and sustains thecredibility of a research organization while moving research projects forward.
