The coordination between advanced building systems and storage systems is an issue that engineers and owners have to deal when designing high- throughput warehouses. Othe issues they have to contend with include integrated controls, large-drop and fast-response sprinklers, bilevel lighting and robotic storage and retrieval. For engineers, the real test whether these advanced features pass the stringent economic and operational requirements specified by the end users.

United Missouri Bank of Kansas City NA's Technology and Operations Centre in Kansas City, MO, was chosen by magazine, 'Consulting-Specifying Engineer,' as 1999 Integrator Award winner in the Commercial Buildings category. The facility was designed by architectural firm, Bell/Knott and Associates. It was built with integrated controls, an efficient and dependable chilled water plant, primary redundant and uninterruptible backup power and leading-edge data-center support.
