Electronic design automation tools made coherent
Article Abstract:
Tanner Research Inc. has put a new line of electronic design automation (EDA) software, Tanner Tools Pro, on the market. The company is out in front in the evolution of such tools, an area in which recent progress has led to integrated packages with seamless transitions between modules. The modules in the Tanner product include T-Spice (circuit simulator), S-Edit (schematic editor), L-Edit (physical-design layout editor) and W-Edit (waveform editor). NetTran is a Netlist translator that can translate Spice files for other vendor formats.

User-friendly design for testing
Article Abstract:
Mentor Graphics Corp. targets its FastScan automatic test pattern generator (ATPG) to those doing full-scan designs or designs that are almost full-scan and it is used at Advanced Micro Devices in the design-for-testability group. The product can produce compact pattern sets for large designs in reasonable time periods. Other Mentor Graphics products are used along with FastScan, including DFTAdvisor, which handles scan chain insertion, and DFTInsight, which will assist with debugging design rule checks and testability jobs.

Mathcad gets its feet webbed
Article Abstract:
Mathcad 2001 is an impressive program that is recommended, and in its new version, it is Web-enabled. For example, with Mathcad, it is now possible to enter mathematical expressions, calculate their results, document them using the program's word processor, incorporate illustrative graphics, and convert everything into HTML format, ready for posting on the Web. Mathcad comes in three versions: a $799.95 Professional Edition; a $1,599.95 Premium Edition; and a Professional Academic Package, with $119.95 volume licensing.
