Fires, vessels and the pressure relief valve
Article Abstract:
Pressure relief valves (PRVs) are used in preventing the internal pressure of vessels from increasing beyond their set pressure. There are certain procedures that should be followed when designing PRVs for static-state relief processes. It is further assumed that the process system is blocked-in while no credit would be given for vent discharge to get a smaller size nor for favored actions of instruments. Normal high liquid level is used in calculating heat input while no human operator can intervene within 30 min time.

Web-enabled control loop assessment
Article Abstract:
Control loop performance can be improved greatly with Honeywell's @sset.MaxLoop Scout solution. Users can download a thin-client data collector from the Internet while a software 'Wizard' walks process control engineers through the 10-minute procedure of configuring and initiating data collection for every control loop on their facility's control system. The data collector runs on Microsoft Windows NT hardware with minimal load placed on the control network.

Keep difficult separations under control
Article Abstract:
Chemical process plant personnel should be able to keep the plant running or enable sufficent jobs to be completed before shutting down the plants. One of the common problems encountered in chemical plants is the arresting of leaks, such as those from flanges, valves and vessel cracks, without disrupting production. Techniques on fixing the leaks are presented.
