Article Abstract:
A common in feature in the electrical industry just like in any other industry is the replacement of the specified products by alternatives that are deemed as 'equal and approved.' But certain factors need to be kept in my mind before using alternatives, such as energy performance and light distribution through electrical safety and maintenance requirements and aesthetic appearance. Three leading lighting organizations in United Kingdom, the Lighting Industry Federation, the Institution of Lighting Engineers, and the Society of Light and Lighting have come up with guidelines for using alternatives. The guidelines are outlined.

Confusion is currently on the way Part P competent persons scheme providers that includes the Building Research Establishment (BRE) certification, National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC), National Association for Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT), ELECSA and British Standards Institution (BSI) Product Services are interpreting the rules on electrical safety put forward by the government. The confusion is on the timing of on-site assessments.

Article Abstract:
The Electrical Contractor's Association (ECA) has developed a range of occupational standards for the datacomm sector, which will help its member companies to utilize their potential to their fullest capacity. ECA is also making efforts to introduce a Modern Datacomm Apprenticeship where grants would be made available to employers and adult trainees with the support of the Government.
