Friendly EM field analysis
Article Abstract:
Integrated Engineering Software Inc's $11,000 Electro is an excellent and useful software package for calculating electric fields and potentials around dielectric or conductive objects. The Electro line differs from other testing programs in that its boundary-element method (BEM) replaces the mesh from the finite-element method with elements located on boundaries between dissimilar materials. Electro is easy and fun to use. Outlines of dielectrics and conductors are entered and the boundary conditions and placements specified. Electro calculates the field parameters and either displays them graphically or saves them on a file. The process is achieved through the use of extensive help menus and simple menu-driven commands. Electro can solve problems in either two or three dimensions. The only real limitation to the program is its steep price.

For writing your next paper
Article Abstract:
TCI Software Research's 'Scientific WorkPlace' can be used in the word-processing of scientific research and costs $595. It requires an Intel 80386 computer with 30 megabytes of hard-disk space and a minimum RAM of 4 megabytes. It is compatible with the TEX typesetting software and has several useful features that are not found in other similar software packages.

Engineering expressiveness
Article Abstract:
The ability to express oneself would be a function of the knowledge of the features of the programs such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. It is found that even the help functions in these programs turn out to be useless.
