Total quality management in the public sector
Article Abstract:
Government agencies face unique pressures that total quality management (TQM) can help relieve. Budget cuts and rising competition from the private sector threaten some, while many government processes are by their nature standardized and error-prone. Customers expect the government to treat people equally, yet give them special attention. TQM is hard to implement here, but can help enormously. A series of steps are outlined to create a TQM strategy.
