Hydrogel recovers anions from wastewater
Article Abstract:
Researchers at the University of Maryland have developed a packed-bed sorption process for the removal and recovery of phosphate, nitrate, nitrite, sulfate, sulfide and perchlorate anions from wastewater. The process uses a crosslinked poly(allyl amine hydrochloride) polymeric hydrogel as the sorbent. The hydrogel selectively binds with the pollutant and toxic anions into the polymer matrix, allowing for its subsequent removal from the contaminated system.
