Inventory and capacity trade-offs in a manufacturing cell
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the trade-off between inventory, capacity and variance reduction methods for buffering against uncertainty and model mix fluctuations in a manufacturing cell. The cell was based on one that generates engine blocks that directly feed on to the assembly line. A simulation framework was then utilized to examine the influence of different buffering techniques on throughput time, capacity utilization and output rate.

Analysis of an inventory system under supply uncertainty
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze a periodic review, single-item inventory framework under supply uncertainty. In line with this, the uncertainty in supply was characterized using a three-point probability mass function. Different characteristics of the expected cost function were then depicted. Moreover, the optimality of order-up-to type policies was analyzed using a stochastic dynamic programming formulation.
