Jacob Rabinow: 326 patents and counting
Article Abstract:
81-year-old engineer Jacob Rabinow finds that new ideas and solutions to problems can come at any time and that the challenges of invention are fun. Rabinow was an engineer for many years with the National Bureau of Standards (NBS), later the National Institute of Standards and Technology, eventually retiring from full-time work as the chief research engineer of the NBS's National Engineering Laboratory. He holds 226 US and about 100 foreign patents, awarded both while he was working for NBS and in private industry. As an inventor Rabinow pursues anything that interests him. He takes a problem, analyzes it, bounces ideas off of peers and finds that flashes of inspiration often occur while involved in other activities. Rabinow offers several observations on inventing and advice to inventors.

Friendly adversaries help U.S. companies
Article Abstract:
The Electronic Industries Association (EIA) and the American Electronics Association (AEA) do not always see things the same way, but both these leading US electronics trade associations provide multiple services to the industry. Both organizations lobby government in the interest of their members. They also work toward furthering science and engineering educational efforts and fostering ethical business standards. Strengthening the competitiveness of the US electronics industry is now their common goal.

The electronic motorist
Article Abstract:
Navigation systems are gaining increasing importance in automotive electronics, providing effective cruise control and route guidance. These systems, through their wide range of electronic subsystems, monitor motoring activities in electronic systems including computers and vehicles. These systems along with night vision devices and fuzzy logic are being actively promoted by Intelligent Transportation System in the US and elsewhere.
