Jump into the Internet
Article Abstract:
The Internet is a loose connection of small computer networks accessed via the telephone and a modem. The construction industry has largely ignored the computer network, but chartered surveyor Mark Wilderspin has launched Proconet on the World Wide Web, aimed at the UK property and construction industry. Wilderspin believes that it should be possible to use the Internet to view 3D computer-generated models of buildings which can be discussed by project team members at different locations. However, UK industry bodies, such as the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, have been slow to see the Internet's potential.

Light overdose
Article Abstract:
There is an urgent need for legislation on exterior and amenity lighting in the UK. Amenity lighting can be dramatic and artistic, but it can also be badly designed, overdone and poorly installed. With the availability of Millenium money there are going to be more schemes put forward, so professionals see the need for introduction of legislation of some sort, possibly at the planning stage. The French city of Lyon requires lighting schemes to be submitted with plans but, Edinburgh is the only British city with a lighting plan.
