Karl Stahlkopf, chief technology officer of the Hawaiian Electric Co., is pushing the development of renewable sources like wind energy and encouraging hotels and big customers to generate power on-site to reduce the amount of fuel the islands must import to generate electricity. Stahlkopf is also aiming to use other renewable resources like sun, hydro, biomass, ocean, and geothermal energy to reduce the dependency on the wind.
