Keeping control: SuperChart 1.0, SuperChart/SPC Charts
Article Abstract:
SuperChart 1.0, from SuperChart/SPC Charts is statistical process control (SPC) software that is user friendly and cost effective, priced at $145 for single copies. SuperChart is slow, has a dated interface and has poor documentation. However, the online help is very good. Colorful and readable charts can be generated that can be on-line or presented in hard copy. The software produces charts that conform to formats described in the 1986 publication of the Wheeler and Chambers book 'Understanding Statistical Process Control' that is a widely used text. Five types of charts can be generated for measurement data and four types of charts can be generated for manufacturing data. Other features include on-line action plans, out-of-control log, and network capability.

Affordable analog design
Article Abstract:
Analog circuit designers have several software packages at their disposal that can help with many phases of development. Programs are available for several tasks: math packages for development of equations to describe the circuit, component simulators for test and debug operations, schematic capture programs to create block diagrams and subcircuits of transistors, and graphics postprocessor programs to simplify analysis of simulated testing and debugging. Software for these applications runs on several platforms: mainframes, workstations and microcomputers. Analog computer-aided engineering software packages are listed with information on platforms supported, product name, manufacturer, price and library size.

Technical word processing: Ami Pro 2.0
Article Abstract:
Ami Pro 2.0, $495, from Lotus Development Corp, is a full-featured windows- or NewWave-compliant word processor. The program includes a built-in equation editor and capabilities for creating and editing charts, images and tables. There is a dictionary and a thesaurus, and there are revision marking tools. Ami Pro, which has a WIMP (windows, icons, mouse and pulldown menus) interface and a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) Windows display, is meant to be especially useful for engineers who need to create technical documents. Ami Professional 2.0 can do any word processing task and is recommended for scientists or engineers.
