Polymer bearings take the load
Article Abstract:
Polymer-based bearings are increasingly popular for many low-cost or heavy-duty applications. The development of new materials and combinations means that working temperatures have been raised to 300 deg C and maximum working pressures to 39 t/sq in. UK-based ACM Bearings makes most of its bearings from polyester resin reinforced with polyester fibre. Applications include automotive coating lines, Boss lift trucks and aircraft simulators.

Plain bearings make toughest slides
Article Abstract:
Drylin-W system from Igus has high load capacities, resist corrosion, dirt and do not need lubrication. The system however cannot move as fast as those based on reciprocating balls and neither can they work at very high temperatures.
