Light from silicon: lasers and microprocessors could be made on the same clip
Article Abstract:
Lasers send vast numbers of signals, through tiny glass fibers, which make it possible, for the high-bandwidth transmissions, link computers across the Internet. British researcher Leigh Canham provided the first hope of linking the speed of the microprocessor to the huge bandwidths of optics.

A static RAM says goodbye to data errors
Article Abstract:
The immunity coming from two extra capacitors in each memory cell added to a static RAM (SRAM) cell making it invulnerable to soft errors. Scientists at STMicroelectronics have improved the immunity of memory cells to radiation without increasing their size.
