Mathematica update
Article Abstract:
Wolfram Research Inc's Mathematica 2.0 mathematical software is a wonderful program that is designed for numerical, symbolic and graphical computation. Mathematica offers a wide range of features under a consistent user interface. Besides its standard comprehensive numerical and symbolic capabilities and its stunning graphics, Mathematica supports almost 850 built-in functions. The 8Mbyte program requires a fast computer with lots of memory and a fast disk; if the memory is configured improperly, Mathematica may not run at all. The MS-DOS version of the software is limited compared with other versions. For example, it does not feature the nice graphical interface or Notebooks feature, and it has some loose ends and obvious bugs. Despite these limitations, no other such program offers so many functions. Mathematica 2.0 costs $695-$1,295, depending on math coprocessor support.

Math powerhouse
Article Abstract:
Mathematica, a mathematics software product with thousands of functions, is as helpful for numerical calculations as for symbolic ones. In document preparation this product is especially broad compared to competing packages. Its programming language is powerful and can be accessed through use of a consistent command system. It reportedly has a user base of more than one million. An upgrade is adding many new features, one of the more important ones being faster computation, especially in repetitive operations on large datasets.

Visualize this!: with Tecplot 10, what you've got is what you see
Article Abstract:
Tecplot 10, from Tecplot Inc. in Bellevue, Washington, is a program that allows users visualize massive amounts of data and creates attractive graphics for presentations and publications. Tecplot 10 is an ideal tool for visualizing the results of finite-element calculations that engineers use to produce reams of data.
