Putting the case for the NEC
Article Abstract:
The New Engineering Contract has been suggested by Sir Michael Latham in his report on the UK building industry as the solution to the industry's contract disputes. The new document, designed for use in civil engineering contracts, will have to be altered for the building trades and a new draft is being created. A legal conference on the NEC organised by the School of Business and Industrial Management has given the draft a hostile reception, with most lawyers believing that the wording of the contract is vague and open to misinterpretation.
