Putting the green back into Greenwich: higher education and urban regeneratiuon can prove perfect partners. But councils need to learn to be more receptive
Article Abstract:
The government is giving priority to the expansion of further education and many inner city universities are preparing to develop new sites. However some planners and inner city boroughs are not receptive to the idea and place hurdles in the way of expansion. Many councils agree though that there are many benefits from a univeristy such as income from university jobs being spent in local shops and business, which in turn creates local jobs for local people. Retraining local people is critical to regeneration and unversities are best place to do this.

Parish councils vow to continue court battle
Article Abstract:
Four Essex parish councils are challenging a district plan in the High Court although some residents and a landowner are defending the plan. The councils are calling for a second inquiry as there was no opportunity to challenge the first inquiry which called for a change to a proposed single development into four separate developments.
