Recovery of crude acrylonitrile
Article Abstract:
Conventional distillation is an ideal but relatively difficult technique to separate the acrylonitrile/acetonitrile (A/A) binary system. Chemstations Inc has developed the Quench System to simulate the removal of crude acrylonitrile from the A/A binary system by removing all of the fixed gases and a large part of the contained water vapor, while cooling the reactor product. Contained ammonia is converted to ammonium sulfate by reaction with sulfuric acid, and the ammonium sulfate that is formed is removed as a dilute solution from the base of the Quench System's stripper.
