Article Abstract:

UK organizations are cooperating in a project to develop computer-controlled smart homes. Automated features of the smart home may include remote-controlled door management, and light-sensitive lighting and curtain closing. These features facilitate independent living for an elderly or disabled occupant. The Smart Homes project is studying the installation of a Lonworks Echelon system in one home and a Siemens instabus EIB system in another home. Both control systems allow easy installation of additional devices and are compatible with a wide range of products.
