Article Abstract:

Bearings that are virtually frictionless are being developed. They can support vertical thrust loads of 10kg and have been used in the construction of a prototype flywheel. Other applications could include cryogenic systems, vibration isolation and transportation systems. The technology will enable large scale production of high temperature superconducting products to be produced.
