Uncertainty and dimensional tolerances
Article Abstract:
Standards are set for workpiece or machine tolerance measurements to minimize cases involving arbitration. Since measurements are always subject to a certain level of uncertainty, standards for dimensional metrology should be specified to reach an agreement on tolerance conditions between customer and supplier. One approach to measurement is to distribute the burden of responsibility for tolerance on both parties, where each party has its own measuring uncertainty.
