VR is having a ball
Article Abstract:
Virtual reality company, VR Systems UK, has developed a virtual reality ball which can be used to produce a virtual world for people inside, without the need for a headset. The ball, or Cybersphere, is 3.5 meters in diameter and it has two layers of 30 polycarbonate segments which are 3 millimeters thick and fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. Images are shone onto the sides of the ball and it sits on an air bearing support so there is no friction. The virtual ball will be marketed to the military and process industries. VR Systems wants partners to allow it to make the ball commercially viable.
