Vision software speeds packaging

Article Abstract:

ABB's new software combined with Cognex's vision system would enable packaging firms to simultaneously control, co-ordinate and inspect upto eight pick-and-place robots. The vision system targets the products on a conveyor and can simultaneously make advanced quality inspections before the target positions are sent to one or more robots, which then picks them up and places them in forms, trays, boxes or in pre-defined patterns.

Ford saves $1.1 million on bracket re-design using FEA and optimization

Article Abstract:

The engineers who generate products in Essex have devised a new plastic power assisted steering (PAS) pump bracket which when used along with the new structural software, reduces the amount of material necessary for the aluminum type. This change has also saved Ford $1.1 million and the new bracket is lighter by 27 percent, has enhanced performance and the cost of it is one third of the old one.
