Water both cools and lubricates gearbox: power transmissions which work immersed in water help the disabled, provide toys for the rich, and offer new opportunities in marine and offshore engineering
Article Abstract:
New types of water immersed gearboxes, using a combination of plastic and steel gears, are increasingly being used in Sweden. They depend on water for both cooling and lubrication and applications include raising and lowering the floors of pools, and other engineering and marine situations. The first application in the UK was for a swimming pool for a private individual. Stigsson Konstruktion of Sweden, designs the water immersion gearboxes for individual applications.
