The Real Barriers to Innovation

Common wisdom (so-called) says that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has no patience with long-range R & D, that salespeople only want to sell what they know how to sell, that manufacturing will not install new processes and so on. But common wisdom may be self-serving, even wrong. Innovation gets around barriers; it does not just define them.

Chemists Prefer the Bench
Article Abstract:
Sixty per cent of chemists surveyed prefer staying in the lab rather than moving up to management. However, seventy per cent felt that a management position would provide opportunity for advancement. As a result, serious morale problems exist.
