A "sweet deal" for Canada is chancy for the Inuit
Article Abstract:
The Inuits of Canada relinquished their rights to two million square kilometers of ancestral land in the Arctic territory when they sold it to the government for $580. Their acquiescence to the government's offer can be traced to the unemployment status of majority of its members. The purchase of Nunavut will enable Canada to establish mining projects that would create employment opportunities for the Inuits. However, questions regarding the merits of their decision have risen due to the threat of dislocation that will ensue once industrial projects have been institutionalized.

Death as a way of life
Article Abstract:
The cholera epidemic in Peru does not exist solely as a medical problem but has social implications too. It resulted from a host of interrelated factors such as poverty, illiteracy and the lack of basic services. Though thousands have died from the disease, a great majority have benefited from its prevalence. The high rate of mortality has forced the government to provide the basic social services which have been neglected and look into attendant social problems. Unless authorities continue their program for development then the problem of cholera will persist, indefinitely.

Troubles in transmigration
Article Abstract:
Transmigration has been a part of Indonesia's development government program since 1905. The migrant families are mostly from the poor and landless population of the rural areas. In the 1980s, the program came under heavy criticism from human rights and environmentalist groups, which claimed that the migrants cause serious environmental damage. Thus, the government suspended new settlements and ordered a survey of the problem areas in 1987. After the survey, it was recommended that a change be made from food crop farming to tree crop agriculture.
