Change in species composition with repeated shifting cultivation: Limited role of soil nutrients
Article Abstract:
The effect of repeated, long-fallow shifting cultivation on tree species composition in secondary forest fallows was examined in a village established over 200 years ago in West Kalimantan, Indonesia. It was proposed that for some species dispersal ability compensated for a negative response to repeated cultivation and dispersal failure doomed other species that initially responded positively.

Does restoration of structural heterogeneity in streams enhance fish and macroinvertebrate diversity?
Article Abstract:
Streams that never channelized were surveyed to evaluate if structural heterogeneity and diversity of fish and microvertebrates at restored sites had attained levels typical of reference systems. It was found that restoration might have little beneficial effect on biodiversity if the restoration schemes do not affect structural heterogeneity relevant to the target organisms.

Evidence for micronutrient limitation of biological soil crusts: Importance to arid-lands restoration
Article Abstract:
A study that was designed to help identify which environmental variables may be manipulated to restore cover of soil mosses and lichens to desertified regions is discussed. It was found that arid lands where biological soil crusts are most prevalent cover 40% of the terrestrial surface of the earth.
