Context-dependent symbiosis between black flies (Diptera: Simuliidae) and trichomycete fungi (Harpellales: Legeriomycetaceae)
Article Abstract:
A study demonstrates the context-dependent nature of a symbiotic between a trichomycete fungus (Smittium culisetae) and a larval black fly (Stimulium vittatum). Results suggest that the symbiotic association between trichomycetes and simuliids, therefore, is dynamic, commensalistic when larvae are well fed, mutualistic when larvae are starved, and parasitic in adults.

Interaction between disturbance and primary productivity in determining stream invertebrate diversity
Article Abstract:
Several models that are put forward to predict diversity from disturbance and/or productivity regimes based on observed patterns in a number of taxa are discussed. Species richness exhibited a negative linear relationship with disturbance but only at open sites.
