Determining characteristic stressor scales for ecosystem monitoring and assessment
Article Abstract:
The determination of correct temporal and spatial scales for environmental monitoring and assessment are examined. The characteristic spatial scale and characteristic time scale are analyzed. An experiment is conducted using a simple model of exponential distance-decay of average stressor values. Results indicate that characteristic distance of a stressor increases with decreasing spatial noise, decreasing spatial signal strength, increasing sample size and decreasing sample resolution. The characteristic time scale increases with decreasing sampling resolution and decreasing sample size.

A novel methodology for environmental policy analysis - the concept of environmental activity elasticities and an application to the CAP
Article Abstract:
An extension of the Life Cycle Analysis method, used for product evaluation, allows for integrated policy analysis. The method depends on the relative assessments of the effect of different factors on the environment. The application of the method is easy and its use requires little training. The method uses the experiences of the local professionals and the affected people. An analysis of the reformed common agricultural policy in a farming community in Greece reveals that the social and environmental costs are high.
