Economic and biological analysis to aid system planning for salmon recovery in the Columbia River Basin
Article Abstract:
The construction of hydroelectric dams and other man-made structures have adversely affected salmon populations in the Columbia River Basin. Moreover, an analysis of existing and past strategies to sustain salmon populations revealed that most of these strategies have failed to meet their goals. Based on the findings of the analysis, it is recommended that all aspects of the salmon life-cycle should be taken into consideration in formulating cost-effective strategies to sustain salmon runs in the area.
