Endangered species and optimal environmental policy
Article Abstract:
A theoretical modal depicts optimal environmental policy as a quantitative permit set equal to the minimum viable population. The optimal environmental policy for the management of endangered species needs to make a policy choice between variables dependent on targeted wildlife species, such as the Pigouvian taxes and quantitative permits. To determine the economic optimal population of the species under negative external impact, the marginal benefit of the endangered species and the firm's marginal costs of modified operations are analysed from three Swedish studies.

Estimating costs and genetic benefits of various sizes of predator populations: the case of bear, wolf, wolverine and lynx in Sweden
Article Abstract:
Most of the predator conservation strategies employed by governments involve the identification of each predator's biological needs. An analysis of the cost of maintaining such conservation strategies in Sweden for its bear, wolf, wolverine and lynx populations was conducted. The analysis focused on the costs of paying livestock owners for animals lost to predation. The genetic benefit of each predator to its species was also analyzed. The implications of the analyses on the Swedish government's conservation program were discussed.

Reply to I. Mysterud, J. T. Warren and L. J. Asheim
Article Abstract:
Research on the costs and genetic benefits of the sizes of predator populations lacked data on surplus killings and migration. The research, however, succeeded in generating accurate estimates using data on maximum annual meat consumption. The study emphasized the need for a more thorough analysis on the costs of predators.
