Indirect effects of predatory trout on organic matter processing in detritus-based stream food webs
Article Abstract:
Indirect effects have a potentially large influence on the structure of many ecological communities and can propagate through food webs resulting in trophic cascades, whereby predators indirectly affect resource dynamics through direct effects on consumers. The ability of predators to induce trophic cascades in detrital systems is likely to be contingent on their ability to suppress prey populations well below carrying capacity, and on the degree of functional similarity of species within detritivore guilds.

Relative strengths of trait-mediated and density-mediated indirect effects of a predator vary with resource levels in a freshwater food chain
Article Abstract:
The relative strength of trait-mediated and density-mediated indirect effects of the predatory insect on algal communities through predation on the pond, while foraging the availability of the prey's resources influence the strength of anti-predator behavioral response and the strength of trait-mediated indirect interactions. At low initial resource levels, trait mediated indirect effects on algal biomass exceeded density-mediated indirect effects, while at high initial resources the reverse is true.

The impact of density-independent mortality on species coexistence: an experimental test with zooplankton
Article Abstract:
The effect of density-independent mortality on the coexistence of four species of pond zooplankton (microcrustacean grazers) in a series of laboratory microcosms is examined. Across the experimental mortality gradient, consumer biomass decreased and resurce abundance increased with an increase in mortality.
