Land classification for strategic ecological survey
Article Abstract:
Land classification procedures seek to construct archetypal models from designated ecological landscapes. Using multivariate procedures, the Institute of Terrestrial Ecology has developed the statistical stratification methodology of regional survey in a sample site location. A simple data base that includes tests for screening deviant sites provides a reliable picture of spatial ecological patterns. By co-ordinating the various data sets, the classification system provides an integrated view of the environment that encompasses ecological data and ecological landscaping.

Assessing stock and change in land cover and biodiversity in GB: an introduction to Countryside Survey 2000
Article Abstract:
A series of surveys by countryside survey 2000, which are designed to evaluate stock and change of land cover, landscape features, freshwaters, habitats and the vegetation of Great Britain, are described. It is shown that the usage to stimulate experiments and to distinguish different pressures to ensure the policy and management responses, are both appropriate and achievable.

Changing landscapes, habitats and vegetation diversity across Great Britain
Article Abstract:
Countryside Survey 2000, 1990 and 1984 are used to develop an integrated view of the changes in land cover, landscape and biodiversity at the regional scale in Great Britain. It is suggested that there are considerable geographical variations in the gains and losses at the stock of the biodiversity action plan board of the major environmental zones of Great Britain.
