Mercury in sediment and fish communities of Lake Vanern, Sweden: recovery from contamination
Article Abstract:
The Swedish lake Vanern still shows considerably high levels of mercury contamination despite significant reductions in effluents from a local chloralkali plant over the past 40 years. This is primarily due to mercury contamination of lake sediments. Levels of mercury in pike, perch and salmonoid fishes from different regions of the lake are also compared.

Macrophyte development and habitat characteristics in Sweden's large lakes
Article Abstract:
Ecological profiles are presented on the Swedish lakes Malaren, Vattern, Vanern, and Hjalmaren. Malaren is characterized by long shorelines and vegetation growth. Vattern exhibits macrophyte dominance. Vanern has reed overgrowth in sheltered bays, and in Hjalmaren Phragmites australis stands predominate.
