Phenotypic diversity and litter chemistry affect nutrient dynamics during litter decomposition in a two species mix
Article Abstract:
The phenotypic diversity of oak litter in the presence and absence of pine litter is varied and fluxes of carbon and nitrogen over a 42-week period is measured. The results indicate that the effects of phenotypic diversity can persist in the presence of another species, and specific litter chemistries are more important than phenotypic litter diversity to most nutrient fluxes during litter decomposition.

Multivariate control of plant species richness and community biomass in backland prairie
Article Abstract:
The objective of the study is to develop and evaluate a multivariate hypothesis about how herbaceous biomass and richness relate to gradients in soil conditions and woody plant cover in backland prairies. Variations in richness are strongly influenced by edaphic conditions, with soil having both direct effects on species richness and independent indirect effects mediated through biomass.

Species richness along multiple gradients: testing a general multivariate model in oak savannas
Article Abstract:
The generality of Grace and Pugesek's model of species richness is investigated with a confirmatory structural equation model. Richness is found maximum at intermediate disturbance and biomass.
