Reserves, resilience and dynamic landscapes
Article Abstract:
The conservation of biodiversity is considered essential to maintain an ecosystem and ensure a sustainable flow of ecosystem goods and services to society. It is suggested that present static reserves should be complemented with dynamic reserves such as dynamic successional reserves that are part of ecosystem management that imitate natural disturbance regimes at the landscape level.

Regime shifts, resilience, and biodiversity in ecosystem management
Article Abstract:
Regime shifts in terrestrial and aquatic environments in relation to resilience of complex adaptive ecosystems and the functional roles of biological diversity have been examined. Evidence reveals that the likelihood of regime shifts may increase when humans reduce resiliency by such actions as resource exploitation, pollution, and land-use change.

Adaptive management of the Great Barrier Reef and the Grand Canyon world heritage areas
Article Abstract:
Two case studies of the Great Barrier Reef and the Grand Canyon are presented to show that improving the ecosystem management requires large-scale trials. The trials enable learning and adaptive governance structures that are inclusive and well supported by society.
