Restoring forest cover on degraded land: three dimensional plantations
Article Abstract:
Indian forest degraded to scrub in areas with low precipitation can be restored through understanding the combined interplay of topography, climate, and geology. When there is a host nucleus of trees nearby, degraded land can be restored through a quarry approximately 20 feet deep, or by scattering seeds during the rainy season.

Recent losses of base cations from soils of Fagus sylvatica L. stands in northeastern France
Article Abstract:
A comparison is presented of soil samples obtained from a beech forest in France, one sample set dating from 1970-1973 and the other from 1991. Results indicate an intense cation loss during this time period, part of which can be contributed to the increase in atmospheric deposition due to air pollution.

Reconstruction of forest site history in Ethiopian highlands based on (13)C natural abundance of soils
Article Abstract:
Research is presented on the Wendo-Genet and Menagesha forest areas in Ethiopia, focusing on periods of deforestation and recovery. Data show that reforestation can be achieved using soils with high organic carbon concentration.
