Salix herbacea L
Article Abstract:
Salix herbacea is a willow native to the British Isles. It is a shrub of small stature with short branches and small leaves with varying shapes. S. herbacea is most common in places of high altitude such as the Scottish highlands and in the mountains of England and Ireland. Despite its affinity for high areas, it can also grow in varying environments such as fell-fields and in places with very little snow protection. Moreover, it can also tolerate cold weathers in areas such as Iceland, Scandinavia and the Alps of Switzerland.

It is widely distributed in the southeast of England and in Europe. Soils composed of sticky, heavy neutral clay, or London Clay, with pH of 5.5 to 8.0, and high summer temperatures favor its growth. P. officinale has been observed as a dominant species in grassland ecosystems.
