Solar ultraviolet radiation and its impact on aquatic systems of Patagonia, South America
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that assessing the impact of ultraviolet radiation on aquatic system organisms requires incorporation of other variables, including differential sensitivity of organisms, changes in cloudiness, ozone concentrations and upper mixed layer/epilimnion depth. Findings have been obtained from studies conducted on phytoplankton photosynthesis, zooplankton, fish larvae and food webs.

The ecological and economic potential of carbon sequestration in forests: Examples from South America
Article Abstract:
Carbon sequestration in above-ground biomass and soils of plantation forests and secondary forests in two countries of South America, Ecuador and Argentina, are quantified and costs of temporary carbon sequestration is calculated. In Ecuador, secondary forests are a feasible and cost-efficient alternative, whereas in Argentina reforestation on highly suitable land is relatively cheap.

Aquatic habitat modifications in La Plata River Basin, Patagonia and associated marine areas
Article Abstract:
The environmental characteristics and situation of aquatic habitats and communities in southern continental and maritime areas of southeastern South America, which include La Plata River Basin, Patagonia, and their Associated Marine Areas (Patagonia Shelf) are described. Habitats in the ocean have been degraded, as overfishing and pollution affect their biodiversity.
