The effect of food on microparasite transmission in the waterflea 'Daphnia magna'
Article Abstract:
The transmission of external stages of parasites are studied namely of spores of the microsporidian gut parasites 'Glugoides intestinalis' and 'Micro 1' that are filter fed by the waterflea 'Daphnia magna'. The impact of food on infected and uninfected waterfleas in particular and on transmission success and epidemiology in general is discussed.

Filtration and digestion responses of an elementally homeostatic consumer to changes in food quality: A predictive model
Article Abstract:
A predictive model of feeding, assimilation, digestion and excretion of Daphnia facing a dietary deficiency in phosphorus and non-phosphorus compounds is described. The model supports the hypothesis that carbon ingested in excess may generate energy that can be used to obtain most nutrients by increased feeding rate.

Severe food stress has no detectable impact on developmental instability in Daphnia magna
Article Abstract:
Daphnia magna was exposed to nutritional stress in the forms of reduced food quantity or quality. Findings suggested that Daphnia magna are able to maintain high developmental stability even under food stress.
