The relationship between seed size and abundance in plant communities: model predictions and observed patterns
Article Abstract:
The lottery model, the spatial competition model, the succession model and the seed size/number trade-off model are examined for accuracy in explaining emergent vegetation dynamics. Research revealed no correlation between seed size and abundance in either annual or perennial plant populations, suggesting that plant population dynamics are governed by complex relationships between plant attributes and environmental factors.

The number and size of seeds in common versus restricted woodland herbaceous species in central Iowa, USA
Article Abstract:
Seed numbers in a group of seven common woodland herbaceous species were compared to seven species with more restricted distributions. The data suggested that these species cannot maximize both seed size and seed number.
