Why are quantitative relationships between environmental quality and fish populations so elusive?
Article Abstract:
Six variables are examined for modeling the interaction between fish populations and conservation management, which can complicate calculations. They include detection difficulties such as climatic variation, complex habitat responses, community versus population interactions, regional predictions biased by broad spatial scale applications, unnoticed sublethal effects, and cumulative effects.

Habitat protection, ecological issues, and implementation of the Sustainable Fisheries Act
Article Abstract:
An overview is presented on the Sustainable Fisheries Act of 1996, focusing on ecosystem-based and habitat-oriented approaches to meeting conservation goals. Increases in fiscal and human resources are suggested to reduce information gaps connected with shifting from current fishery management techniques to sustainable techniques.

Entering an era of water scarcity: the challenges ahead
Article Abstract:
Two components of water resource management are proposed, once which focuses on the ecological functions of freshwater ecosystem flows and another which emphasizes the increase of water productivity. Global partnerships are suggested to accomplish these goals.
