Managing biofilters for consistent odor and VOC treatment
Article Abstract:
The management of biofilters for consistent treatment of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and odor is done by providing food, air and water to the macro and microscopic biological organisms. The decision to determine the point at which extensive corrective action is necessary becomes crucial for biofilters operating at reduced rates of odor removal efficiency. Biofilters may be redesigned to over come specific problems such as drying of the media and controlling dust. performance of biofilters should be monitored to provide information for operators, regulators and facility designers.

Lower cost way to septage treatment
Article Abstract:
Ecological Engineering Assoc (EEA) is testing a pilot project on sewage treatment in Harwich, MA. The facility uses Solar Aquatics, a septage treatment technology utilizing aquatic plants and other organisms kept in greenhouse-enclosed tanks and marshes to treat sewage. Wastewater is strained prior to introduction to the system to remove dirt and inorganic particles. The septage then passes through different tanks and marshes for treatment. EEA plans to eventually build a private full-scale facility utilizing this technology.
