Replacing plastic mulch with compost
Article Abstract:
Ted Winsberg, a pepper farmer, employs customary, commercial methods in growing sweet peppers on his 200 acre farm in Florida. The peppers are raised on beds filled with plastic mulch and sprayed with methyl bromide to kill weed seeds and nematodes. Recently, he tried experimenting with compost as a substitute for the plastic mulch. Although it is still too early to draw any conclusions, Winsberg believes that the method will do away with the use of methyl bromide, prevent bed deterioration and ultimately provide more jobs in the community.

Compost valued highly on high value crops
Article Abstract:
Bill Hendricks, who has always been attached to plants and has risen steadily from a worker to become the president of Klyn Nurseries in Perry, OH is concentrating on developing compost from organic material. Though it seems a luxury to use compost on fields now, its use would soon become inevitable just as beautifying one's landscape has become a necessity as it reflects the success of the business. Compost of a high quality helps growth and also protects plants.
