When good parents hit their kids
Article Abstract:
Parents sometimes lose control and hit their children though they are generally restrained. It is helpful for these parents to know that they are not alone. Knowing that other parents have learned how to control their own impulses has also been helpful. A conscious decision to look for alternative ways to react is the first step toward not striking the child.

A mother describes how she often fell into overprotective parenting patterns in situations where her young son lost treasured objects. She finally overcame her tendency toward overprotection when her son lost his batting glove, and the boy learned from the experience.
